A Charlie Brown Christmas

"Linus, I just don't understand Christmas. Instead of feeling happy, I feel sort of let down."

I think that someone needs to shake some sense into me. I am usually an enthusiastic person. I love to bake, shop, decorate, and wrap during the Christmas season. This year I just can not seem to "get with the program." I am about two months behind where I usually am at this time of year. I have some gifts bought but haven't even started wrapping. I really need to finish up the shopping. Last evening I thought that I'd at least wrap the grand children's pajamas in tissue paper and put them into boxes. I could wrap them with wrapping paper later. I managed to put eight pairs of pajamas and one nightgown in boxes. I need to go up in the attic and see how many gift bags that I have from last year (now how hard is that?). Today Daughter Amber came to help with the outside lights. Thanks to her enthusiasm and hard work most of the lights are up. I won't be home most of tomorrow so I hope to finish the lights on Monday. These are a few of the gifts that need wrapped.

Gm Sweetie.....You are way ahead of me with shopping. We do have the outside decorated and I have the tree up, but not decorated, that's today's job. Here's how I work gifts for my grands. Every year on Thanksgiving, I give my kids checks for the grands, they do the shopping for what they want, the girls drop the items off to me, I wrap, and best of all, my grands say, Oh Nana you always get us just want we want. :) Thank you for the prayers for Cory.

Hugs,
Cory

Sweetie, when the mood strikes everyone had better stand back, because I have a feeling that you're going to be a dynamo! Sometimes we have to force ourselves into a mood...it's going to happen, I hope you'll post photos of the house lights!

Uh oh, are you showing the gifts to the grands online?
Sometimes I feel excited about Christmas and other times I kind of feel a little down. That's when I stop and do something else. I love using the gift boxes and bags so I don't have to wrap. Somethings do require wrapping, though.

First, you are more than entitled to not be ready this year. Don't beat yourself up. I love the pajamas you bought. I have only bought one present and have no idea what i want to buy. No tree up, no decorations. Now see, you are way ahead.
Love Nancy

Hey there Sweetie Pie,

Atleast you have started shopping. I have yet to go out and shop. I need to get started.

I am sure you will get in to Christmas mode any day now.

PS I am more than sure that I am nowhere near a professional. (LOL) I am glad that you enjoyed my story.

Hello dear Sweetie:-)

I was having a very similar conversation with my mom on Friday when I spent the day with her...she was saying how she just can't get in the Christmas mood and doesn't even feel like decorating. I usually put up her tree for her but she doesn't want it up yet if at all. I'm hoping in a couple of weeks she'll change her mind:-)

I've got most of my shopping done but it's all piled up on shelves in my bedroom, I haven't even started to wrap anything yet. I still have all my Christmas baking to do as well...usually that's all done by now. Thank goodness we still have a few weeks before Christmas Day is here! lol xoxo

I love the pajama idea for your grandkids. I do new pajama bottoms and T-shirts every Christmas Eve for my kids. I figure that way they look nice on Christmas morning for pictures! When my daughter got married though I quit doing it for her and told her that it was up to her to continue it if she wanted in her own family. It was tempting to do it for Savannah but I'm not sure I'd be as good as you and get sizes and styles right so I think I'll still stop when the kids leave the house. I give them to my husband too though so I'll probably keep doing that! Work gets so insanely busy this time of year it's hard for me to truly get in the spirit but I try really hard. You've had a rough year and I can see why it's hard for you. I pray for your family every day dear friend. I appreciate your friendship. Cindy

I have done very little shopping, per se, for Christmas this year. I have however, purchased several items to embroider and have completed one tablecloth (52x52 inches), three tabletoppers and am working on the 4th one now along with completing 6 table runners, and a set of pillow cases with matching dresser scarf and two doilies. These will mostly be the presents for my two daughters and my son this year -along with a couple of books too. My oldest grandson, Alex, who is 11, will give me a list of books he would like to have and I will try to select some from his list. He and I have done this for the past two years now and it works great. Along with that, I will try to find some good fleece fabric in a camo print to make him a sweatshirt as he loves when I make those for him. The two younger grandkids will get pjs and probably some other little clothing items and a toy or two. Nothing all that much as I think giving kids every thing you can think of and afford takes away from the true meaning of the season.
Thanks for visiting my place and I very much enjoyed browsing through your blog -especially the pictures of the dishes you collect. I love cups but don't have room for anymore and with the two younger grandkids living with me, who aren't too gentle with dishes and stuff, it will be a while before I find a way to display some of those things -need to have my son-in-law build me some special shelving -either that or to win the lottery and add on to this old house then! LOL
Peace.

Oh, Sweetie...I am the same way. I just can't seem to get everything together, no matter how hard I try. I have some gifts bought and wrapped but need to finish it all up by the end of next week. Then, I can have a little bit of breathing room before Christmas Eve. WHEW....just the wrapping of gifts for 10 grandkids and their mammas and poppas is a job!! But, then...you know all about THAT!!
love, bj

I"m having a hard time w/ the shopping because everyone says "lets not do presents this year, we have too much already".

I haven't finished shopping, decorating, card addressing, or much of anything else. You're sure not behind me!

I have not the decorating bug yet this year.
I am going to put up the tree on Saturday.
I was under the weather so I did not go shopping on Black Friday.
I need to get started.
God bless.

Looks like you have done more than you think. You will be fine. Maybe if you put on some Christmas music and set the egg time for 30 minutes and spend that time just doing things you want done for the holidays? Pjs! I love pjs for Christmas. Each year, as we grew up there was a box for each of us under the tree with 'Christmas Eve' written on the tag. We all 4 knew it was our new pair of pjs but still we could not wait to open them. My mother wanted us in new pyjamas for our Christmas photos the next morning. Soooo...I grew up (well kind of but don't tell my mother I admitted that...lol!) and my mother no longer sent me a box marked 'Christmas Eve' to my shock and horror. I might be a married woman but does that mean I don't want a new pair of pjs to wake up in on Christmas morning??? :)

Hugs ~
Heidi (who hopes your grandkids love their pjs as much as I did)
