Amish Country

Our daughter, Stephanie, called me Saturday morning and asked me if I wanted to go to Belleville with her. She wanted to find some peaches to can. I told her that I was absolutely too busy to go. She said, "Get ready. I'll pick you up in a half hour." Then she told me that she'd stop at the Amish store that had the beautiful dishes that were very inexpensive. I did my hair, put on my make-up, and was waiting for her at the door. Well - the Amish store that sells dishes was closed. We drove and drove until we saw a sign that had peaches listed among the produce. An Amish girl probably 15 or 16 waited on us. She, like the other young Amish that aren't working in the fields, was in her bare feet. We then started on a search for peppers. We saw a sign at the bottom of a very long lane that had peppers listed along with other produce. I bought peppers, onions, plums, watermelon, zuchini, and a jar of elderberry jelly. We then went home with our trunk full of produce. I took several photos. The Amish do not believe in taking their pictures so the pictures leave a lot to desire. I had to take them from a distance. In the small town of Allensville, which is predominantly Mennonite, I took photos of beautiful flowers. I'm saving them for Bloomin' Tuesday.

I put my head out the window to take this picture. There was a darling little Amish boy and probably his father in the buggy.
This is another picture that I took through the windshield.
This picture was taken as we drove up the lane to the second produce store.
This was taken in the town of Belleville. The horse was too fast for me.

I just love being in Amish/Mennonite country and like you, always take the pictures from a distance or from the car! lol We go to a place called St. Jacobs which is Mennonite country and I love going to their Farmer's Market as well as their roadside stands. Everything they sell is so good and fresh. xoxo

Well, another thing we have in common. I LOVE THE AMISH. I had a picture of a buggy I took out the front window of my car, as a screen saver on my computer for ages. Now it is one of my dollhouses. I am so glad you listened to your daughter and went. It sounds like you had a great day. Wish I could have been there too. You just took time to smell the flowers. LOL.

You know, maybe we could all learn something from the Amish in this too fast paced and hectic life most of us lead; however, I do enjoy our conveniences.. ;-) Bo

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving me a comment. I always love meeting new people. I am so very sorry about your daughter. I cannot imagine the pain in dealing with something like that.

My father was from Pennsylvania and I was so happy to finally get to visit there in 2000. We had such a lovely time and I love the Amish people. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Thank you, Sweetie, for stopping by my blog and for your sweet comments!
I live in an Amish and Mennonite Community as well and love driving around their farms and seeing them work in the fields with their donkeys. We have lived here for twenty years and I am still fascinated with their buggies.

I enjoyed my visit this morning, and I will be coming back to read more about your life and family.

Blessings,
Cheryl

Oh, Sweetie, I have always so wanted to go to Amish Country. It is the most facsinating thing.(I have wondered if the movie "WITNESS" with Mr. Harrison Ford (drool, slober) has anything to do with it!!) hahaha...
And, their handmade items are all so well made and pretty.
Thanks so much for taking me along...
love, bj
