Blue Monday

After my mother passed away, Daughter Amber bought the house that had been my childhood home. It was my sisters and my task to go through our mother's belongings. We left the dining room table and chairs in the attic. The table was not sturdy and the chairs needed upholstered. Both the table and chairs needed refinished. My sister and I thought that we would have to dispose of the table and chairs but were not quite ready to do so. Amber has a friend whose hobby is refinishing old furniture. She had the table and chairs refinished and the chairs reupholstered. Amber was anxious for me to see the finished product. I was actually in awe of the beautiful refinished table and chairs. Of course, blue is my favorite color and that fact made them all the more appealing. I half jokingly told Amber that I would trade my dining room table and chairs for hers. She immediately agreed. She said that mine was less formal and would be better for her house.

This is the chair that was at the head of the table where Daddy sat
The table has two center pieces that I stored in the closet. After I get some help rearranging the sideboard, I plan to place the table in the center of the room.

What a precious daughter and a lovely piece of your childhood to now have in your own home! Is it a Duncan Phife? (sp?) That's what it looks like. I cannot imagine how excited you are to have it! I am so happy for you. Daughter Amber deserves a huge 'Kudos' for this one! Have a great day, Sweetie!

Many hugs............

I wish that Amber's friend lived close enough to me to refinish a piece of furniture. He did a gorgeous job. I'm glad you traded; I think you may have got the best of the deal. Thanks for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.

Your daughter's friend did a really great job on the chairs. The color off the velvet is a real eye catcher. Just beautiful.

That's beautiful! How wonderful to sit there and recall childhood memories!

A friend of mine whose children were small at the time, reupholstered her grandmother in laws chairs that they had inherited. They covered them with fabric but then heavy duty vinyl as well before securing them back into the framework. It was great because they always looked fabulous regardless of their little kids!

Sounds like everybody was a winner in this case! Always great when that happens. And it's good you could preserve these -- not just for sentimental reasons, but also because they just don't build stuff like this anymore.
