An Excursion

Daughter Stephanie and Grandson Wade had a dentist appointment and asked me to ride along. My mind was racing as I said, "I'd love to go." I know that any trip with Stephanie leads to an adventure. The time at the dentist was brief as Stephanie and Wade only needed a check-up and a cleaning. Stephanie told me that she had to go to JoAnn Fabrics and the Fashion Bug. While she selected quilting supplies in JoAnn Fabrics, I browsed. I have piles of fabrics and sewing supplies at home and didn't purchase anything. Next we went to the Fashion Bug which was having a "going out of business" sale. Everything in the store as 70 per cent off. We went our separate ways. I found a white winter jacket that I loved on clearance for $20. When I caught up with Stephanie she had several items, including a jacket exactly like the one I selected. I guess now we'll be twins.

$20 Clearance Jacket
We were hungry so I suggested we go to the Honey Creek Inn. It's a little restaurant with a lot of atmosphere. I wish that I had taken my camera. There are displays of quilts, old utensils, and other rustic items. I navigated the way (hoping that I remembered the location). We arrived and, on entering the restaurant, Stephanie picked up a small brochure. After studying the menu, I selected eggs Benedict (delicious). Wade got an enormous breakfast of eggs, sausage, home fries, and pancakes. Stephanie had eggs and sausage. Everything was delicious!! Then Stephanie looked at the brochure and discovered that Hartley's Potato Chip Factory had a store as did Asher's Candy Factory. The sweet waitress gave us directions to both. I waited in the car while Stephanie went in the potato chip factory. She came out with a huge bag of potato chips. They were seconds (a little darker than those that are sold) for only $3. I took Stephanie's and Wade's picture with the bag of chips after we got home. Then off we went to Asher's Candy factory. The aroma of chocolate filled the air as we walked into the store. The store was wonderful. Along with candy, there was a variety of country decorating accessories, cards, and other gift items. One section of the store was filled with "seconds."

The chocolate covered potato chips was the only candy I bought at regular price. I had never heard of them and was curious about the taste.

I had also never tasted chocolate covered taffy. I tried it on the way home and it was delicious.

These white chocolate covered pretzels look delicious. I also bought a bag of seconds that contained a variety of chocolates.
There was a rack of Valentines with a vintage look. I bought three for just $1.We left and headed home. On the way home, we saw a craft store where we had previously shopped. Unfortunately, it was closed. We arrived home and I insisted that Stephanie come in the house so that I could take a picture. My sweet daughter humored me, although she said that she was tired. Stephanie and Wade left and silence permeated my home. I thanked God for my family

We all love that coat and for only $20, you got a very good buy! I made chocolate covered pretzels for Christmas and I never thought about drizzling red and green chocolate over the white ones. That is a good idea! Also, three cards for $1 is a steal anywhere. What a wonderful day you had.

You'll have to let us know how all the treats were after you try them. We have a Pepperidge Farm factory about 1/2 an hour away from us and we go from time to time and buy seconds. My family really likes the Goldfish crackers they sell and the Mint Milano Cookies.....hmm, now I'm hungry! I'm glad you had a fun day out with your family.

Sounds like you had a great day - I'm sure the dentist office was the best part -LOL - actually, I had to chuckle when I read how you and Stephanie had picked out the same jacket, my Mom and I do that all the time - I guess great minds think alike! I'm eating chips as I am writing this -Mmmm! Now I need chocolate, too. ~ Robyn

Are all the Fashion Bug stores closing or just the one where you were shopping? Just wondering there.
Joann Fabrics -gosh how I love that place! Haven't bought any fabric in quite awhile now as I have enough plastic tote containers filled with fabrics intended to be turned into various items but never made it that far! Not yet, anyway. I sometimes think I have almost enough fabric -oh, and yarn too -that I would have a good start at setting up a shop of my own! One of these days I'll start whittling away at the fabric and yarn stash too though. I keep telling myself that anyway!
Great that you had a nice day out with your daughter and grandson and even got a really good buy in the process too!
Peace.

All that chocolate..... hard to resist.

Sweetie.. I have just looked around on your blog and have noticed the things you have written on the side bar. Your husband's death and your daughter's murder. I am really shocked. You are marvellous coping with that.

I love your music "Peace on Earth" I guess that is where you get your strength from...... your faith.

This sounds like my kind of outing but I know you were tired when you got home. When we lived in PA, I visited many candy factories with friends. Yum!

Hi Sweetie -

Love that jacket. I also have a white jacket. But be careful, if you wear it out in the snow you'll be camouflaged. I hear white is the new black. LOL.

Those pretzels look delicious.

I'm so glad you had a lovely day out with Stephanie and Wade. :-) I love your new jacket...what a great price, and how funny that your daughter chose the same one without you knowing until you both checked out! And to complete the adventure...chocolate and potato chips! A great way to end the afternoon. And chocolate covered pretzels are one of my very favorite treats ever. :-)

That jacket is great. What a buy. We have a factory we can buy potato chips and pretzels like that. Mrs. Shearers. The chocolate all looks so yummy.
What a beautiful girl your daughter is. I read my daughter's comment, sounds like she was missing me and I her.

Oh my goodness....what a fun adventure! Aren't those days just the greatest. No particular agenda (except for the dentist) and pure fun to be with family (or friends). This should be a lesson to you. I now ALWAYS have my camera with me. It's amazing what you find to photograph and blog about. Good job of capturing the pictures at home of all the goodies you scored!

PS: Hope you get to feeling better soon
